The film portraits eight localities and their inhabitants in Germany and Austria. It shows how architectural engagement can help develop vibrant places.
Central to a positive community development is the commitment and involvement of local people. Long-term strategic planning is just as important as the promotion of quality architecture and the design of public spaces. Both have the potential to strengthen the connectivity of the inhabitants with the place and to consolidate the identity of the community.
And yet it is always a challenge to meet on an equal footing with everyone who wishes to participate in the developments of the architectural culture. The film shows how this process can succeed, what kind of pitfalls it contains and what can arise even under difficult conditions, when the participants have the necessary endurance and perseverance.
"The countryside" is today characterized by contrasts - from shrinking regions to dynamic settlement areas, from scattered settlements to villages to small towns with urban flair.
The people in Ort schafft Ort talk to us about how great the potential for positive developments in these very different habitats can be.
